Aromatherapy Education

Learn  from a CERTIFIED AROMATHERAPIST!

My goal is to teach the public how to safely and effectively use essential oils and to provide them with the tools they need to understand aromatherapy. I consider it a privilege and a responsibility. I want my students to go on to touch other lives, and those lives will touch new lives and so on. It's a very powerful chain!

I offer 1, 2, or 3 hour classes, and 1 and 2 day workshops. I'm also available to speak at public and private events.

FAQs

Are Essential Oils Therapeutic Grade?

No government agency certifies essential oils as "therapeutic grade".  The therapeutic quality of an essential oil depends on many factors such as, growing conditions, how the plants are harvested and stored, plant parts used, extraction conditions, and packaging.

Are Essential Oils Organic?

Just because essential oils come from natural plant material doesn't mean they are organic.  To label essential oils organic, companies must comply with both organic requirements and FDA labeling and cosmetic guidelines

Can Essential Oils Be Used Internally?

Some essential oils can be taken internally, but should only be done with the guidance of a qualified or licensed professional. Herbs and/or hydrosols should be considered first before ingesting essential oils.

How Are Essential Oils Extracted?

There are several methods for extracting essential oils from the plant material, the most common of these methods being steam distillation.  Other methods include cold-pressed extraction, solvent extraction, CO2 extraction, maceration process, and enfleurage.

Why Are Some Oils Unsafe To Use On Or Around Children?

Essential oils can be safely used to enhance our wellbeing; however, there are essential oils that can cause adverse reactions in children. Eucalyptus and peppermint oil should be avoided with certain age groups; eucalyptus because of the 1,8-cineole content, and peppermint because of the high menthol content.

Why Should Certain Oils Be Avoided During Pregnancy?

Pregnant women should practice extreme caution when using essential oils, as they have been known to cross the placenta and reach the baby.  It is usually recommend to avoid using any oils during the first trimester, and to use a lower dilution during the second and third trimesters.  Herbs and hydrosols are great choices before using essential oils during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
